Math

I’m sure some of you are waiting for this week’s math problem…well you are going to have to wait until I get an answer to last week’s problem.

Solve for x, y, and z:

3y + 9 = -3x/2

2x – y – 3z = -17

6z – 8x + 4 = 32

I’ll help you a bit:

For one of the equations you will solve for z.
For another equation you will solve for y.
In the last equation you will use substitution.

  • I really just didn't feel like doing all this math, but since Bill keeps pestering me... ;)

    Rearranging formulas:
    6z=28+8x
    6y=-3x-18

    3z=(28+8x)/2
    3z=14+4x

    y=(-3x+-18)/6
    y=-.5x-3

    Therefore:
    2x-y-3z=-17
    2x-(-.5x-3)-(14+4x)=-17
    2.5x+.5x+3-14-4x=-17
    2.5x-4x=-17-3+14
    -1.5x=-6
    x=4

    6y=-12-18
    6y=-30
    y=-5

    3z=14+6
    3z=30
    z=10

  • Sorry, but I was on vacation from 2 Wednesdays ago through this past Friday. Justin nailed it.

  • On vacation... likely excuse. C'mon Steve, you can admit you didn't know how to do it... =P

  • The vacation explains a complete lack of posts from me between 8/8 and 8/17 back at my blog (Fred and Aaron filled in nicely).
