If you recall in a previous post I pointed out that since the Democrats took power in Jan of 2007 oil and gas prices have continued to rise…yet this “hoax” has yielded an immediate response from the market, in particular those “pesky” speculators! The cost of oil has dropped $19 in one week!!!
They realize that if the US just begins to tap some of the oil that is available there will be a small but noticeable easing of demand.
Lets face it $1.00 gas is probably gone forever but there is no reason why we shouldn’t be trying to minimize the upward cost of a vital staple in the world economy! If we tap the known sources of oil there will be more supply to accommodate the ever increasing demand for oil. This will not be a permanent fix but it could help relieve the pricing pressure for the next 15-30 years while viable alternatives can be sought.
I love when lefties get their undies in a bundle over things that Republicans do but I get really pissed off when they try to distort and spread lies about what we do.

What really galls me is that these supposed “intellectuals” like Jay on the left seem to think that they are science minded…you know guys that believe Algore over scientific research…people that believe consensus is somehow related to science…that think “peer-reviewed” research adds any credit to an argument (see: cold fusion).
When in reality they are just ticked that Republicans believe that true scientific advancement should not be done within the realm of government. We should not allow political discourse to enter into a field that is meant to be driven by facts not emotions. But the left can’t seem to imagine science without government…I’m not surprised!
Here are a few things to note about the “Republican War on Science”:
While the Right does not wish to have government funding of embryonic stem cell research…the Left will not allow life saving research to be conducted on animals – even if independently funded.
While the Right reviews scientific research that shows anthropogenic global warming to be nothing but “hot-air” and has encouraged more debate rather than jumping to any one conclusion…the Left is moving swiftly (and blindly) to raising taxes around the world with new “carbon credits,” completely ignoring the swift decline in global temperatures.

I immediately answered the question as “it is decided by Congress” and then started to retract that and said I was unsure. During my trip home I began to mull this question again and realized that my initial answer was, in fact, correct!

Do you know who Oscar Pistorius is? His story is amazing and I would recommend that you read up about him.
In short the guy is a double amputee below the knees and he runs on prosthetics called ‘blades.’ He currently holds the Paralympic world records in the 100, 200, and 400 meter runs. Oscar has tried to become an Olympian in the 2008 games but the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) determined that the ‘blades’ constitute “technical aids” which are not allowed in IAAF sports.
So here is the question: is it fair to allow a disabled, yet highly competent, person compete in an event where the prosthetics he uses provides him an advantage over the other competitors?
That sounds highly un-PC but the facts are there…he does not have the fatigue that other runners do…his thighs do not have to work as hard to move the prosthetics as they would to move a normal leg (pure weight
differential)…the spring that is provided by the ‘blades’ allows him to be propelled forward better than any set of legs would.This is one of those weird circumstances, where having a disability gives that person an unfair advantage over those without the disability. Oscar might still be in the Olympics though…he is looking to get on the South African team, on the relay seeing how he missed the qualifying time to make the individual team in the 400 meter.

It seems as though Best Buy has sent some “refund” checks out to people here in Wisconsin (and a few other states) with an apology for charging them tax on their purchase of a digital TV in which they
used the DTV voucher offered by the federal government.Josh points out that a large company such as Best Buy could easily make such a mistake when confronted by over 7,400 tax levying authorities in the US but was their decision correct?

What I found most intriguing is that the article says that NF3 is “estimated to be 17,000 times as powerful as carbon dioxide” but that is when it is compared to CO2 over a 100 year period…why 100 years? I’ll get back to you on that one but it seems to be based on a thing they like to call Global Warming Potential which sets CO2 as the base 1 and compares all greenhouse gases to this…with the notable exception of H2O…funny that they don’t do that calculation!Here it is again with the following hint:

Now if you saw my post from a few days ago I posted an image of this car…the answer is B but there is a blatant flaw in the answer… "instead of greenhouse gases"…Really!!??!!

It has been 80 days since Racine Unified Schools passed a spending referendum.
Now they want another one.
How the hell are we to keep up with this non-sense?
Why is it that RUSD can not figure out how to do a budget that includes all of the items that are needed to run their organization?
I hope Caledonia is able to successfully remove themselves from this mess. Maybe starting from scratch we can get a real handle on the costs associated with running this type of organization!

While I am a “white male” I grew up with and live my life by MLK’s dream…of not judging a person by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
Yet democrats and now black conservatives are moving over to Obama…not because of his character but because he is black…I am simply appalled.
If you call yourself a Republican and you vote for Obama…one of the most liberal Senators out there…you are NOT A REPUBLICAN or CONSERVATIVE!!!
There is a drumbeat coming from the far left that keeps things like rail on the forefront of their effort to socialize this country. They use arguments like “At $4 a gallon for gas, they'd embrace rail transit if only it were available” and state that “That future doesn't involve building more superhighways.” See Capital Time Editorial
Really? Have we fallen so far away from American innovation that we are going to sit by and let 1) the price of oil dictate the way we live and 2) allow a few kooks on the fringe of our society (albeit many of them are in the media) dictate that we must now pay to travel in a straight line and find other ways to get from train station to final destination? I don’t think we are their yet.
Every time the notion of KRM or “commuter rail” comes up I like to point out to people that this is not a step forward in commuting but a step back to the past!

So let’s be real honest here gas prices are horrible but American ingenuity will bring about the next permutation in transport…won’t it? Why do we need to fall back to a bygone era where people have no say but to go from point A to point B with no option of going to point C?
We are a society of drivers…we love our cars…so why would we abandon the idea of them? There are ways to make cars more efficient, Hybrids are a great example of this. Currently there are cars running on fryer grease, fully electric cars, cars powered by natural gas, and there is even cars running on Hydrogen. These are examples of innovation.
We still have time to make the right choice when it comes to transportation. The next generation of vehicles is just around the corner we just need to be ready to embrace our imagination and not fall back on old standbys.
Wisconsin’s motto is “Forward” so let’s move in that direction.

Global Warming and the Price of a Gallon of Gas

Here is the deal about CO2, carbon dioxide. It is a natural component of our atmosphere. It has been there since time began. It is absorbed and emitted by the oceans. It is used by every living plant to trigger photosynthesis. Nothing would be green without it. And we humans; we create it. Every time we breathe out, we emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. It is not a pollutant. It is not smog. It is a naturally occurring invisible gas.
On May 20th, a list of the names of over thirty-one thousand scientists who refute global warming was released. Thirty-one thousand of which 9,000 are Ph.ds. Think about that. Thirty-one thousand. That dwarfs the supposed 2,500 scientists on the UN panel. In the past year, five hundred of scientists have issued public statements challenging global warming. A few more join the chorus every week. There are about 100 defectors from the UN IPCC.

Summary:
Oak Creek Power Plant (OCPP) produces 7,070,196 MW per year (based on the maximum output and the average real production for coal plants being 70%) and resides on 400 acres of land.
Today the largest solar plant in the world, Hoya de Los Vincentes in Murcia, Spain (HdLV), produces 60,444 MW per year (based on the maximum output and the average real production for solar plants being 30% – actual results are much worse) and sits on 247 acres.
The largest solar plant under construction, Girassol Solar Power Plant in Moura, Portugal (GSPP) expected to by in operation by 2011, will produce 162,936 MW per year and operate on 320 acres of land.
If we want to have a solar plant produce the same energy as that of the current OCPP then based on what is currently in operation we would need a solar plant that would take up 45 square miles of land (about 6.7 miles by 6.7 miles). Using the technology that is currently under construction we would be able to have a solar plant that would only take up 22 square miles (about 4.6 miles by 4.6 miles)
