Very good!!! I knew it would be easy but I thought there would me more people that were unsure.
The country was Myanmar (also known as Burma).
This week is very easy as well so I’ll give it a 2 out of 10.
THANK YOU – gopfolk

…I know there are a few of you still out there.
If you live near one of our neighboring states (with the exception of Michigan) I would recommend that if you want to buy your smokes you consider crossing the border to get them!!!
Once again Wisconsin has a higher tax rate than surrounding states…I thought we were raising the cigarette tax so that we would get more income not chase people out of the state?!?!
From the Tax Foundation:

I haven’t done this in a while.

Did any of you look up Illyria? Well this “country” existed back around 400 BC and comprised most of the western Balkan Peninsula. In today’s terms Illyria makes up 8-9 different countries.
Last weeks county was Albania which would have been at the southern tip of Illyria.
This week I think is pretty easy so I’ll only give it a 4 out of 10 rating.
Good Luck
It looks like the Racine Mayor job is attracting some attention by Democrats...Both Assemblymen Turner and Mason have made indications that they are interested in the position.
Funny though...Still have not heard a word from the Racine or State Democrat Party denouncing the former Mayor. I think we will be able to make hay out of that!
Glad to see Helding has thrown his hat in...this will be a fun few weeks!!!
It looks like Mayor Becker was just timing his departure so that it would get buried in the news.
During the President’s inauguration speech Becker’s letter of resignation is delivered to City Hall.
JT: Breaking News – Becker Resigns
Good bye.
As the Midwest is bombarded with super cold temps (see: here; here; here; here; here) Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) announced today that “Our committee will be acting quickly and decisively to reduce global warming and end our dependence on foreign oil” and that “Comprehensive global warming legislation will be sent to the House floor by Memorial Day.”
WOW! I thought it was getting warmer out there…I thing the thermometer went from -10 to -5 in the last hour!!! OH NO!!!!
From The Hill
I have found that driving in Wisconsin during the winter months has become insufferable! You’d think that the people out on the road had never seen snow in their life and that they are going to die at the slightest tap on the gas pedal.
I found myself cursing out loud in my car yesterday morning because the people in front of me only felt save driving 20 mph on a relatively clear road. Now if that wasn’t bad enough when I got out of work the roads had been cleared (well as cleared as they are going to get when the salt doesn’t melt the ice because of the temperature) but because it was so cold they were still driving 20 mph…what are they afraid of…do they think that the car might slip a little and they would end up on their tail ends? They are driving like people walk when on ice?!?!
If you live in Wisconsin and you do not feel safe driving in the weather then do all of us a favor and just stay home! Some of us leave early so that we can get places safe when conditions are not ideal. We have trouble enough dealing with the weather we do not have the time or patience to deal with those that do not know how to drive under these conditions.
If I just moved to sunny Arizona where there is no snow I wouldn’t have to deal with this!
This week’s is a bit harder, on my 1-10 scale it is a 9.
PLEASE DO NOT POST THE ANSWER...supply info or a hint that proves you know it...there are others playing!!!
THANK YOU – gopfolk

This goes into the “What the hell was he thinking?” file…According to multiple sources Racine Mayor Gary Becker was arrested yesterday for solicitation of a minor. This alleged incident took place outside of a Milwaukee mall and the Mayor is currently being held in Kenosha County Jail on a $165,000 cash bond.
According to the Racine Post the mayor’s office had no comment as of 8:04 this morning.
So this begs a lot of questions that I’m sure will not be answered to anyone’s satisfaction.
I feel bad for the Becker family at this time and hope that this will not harm them in any way.
It was, in fact, the Racine County Fair Grounds.

Well the other night while playing with that feature I came across the following image posted below and simply did not know where I was.
Can you tell me where or what the name of this place is? I think you might be surprised too!

In today’s Journal Times Rep. Vos does what he does best: he states things the way they are!
JT: Inauguration signals time to outline principles
Rep. Vos states “Last week, the governor requested a $1 trillion dollar bailout package. Transferring this amount of money from the feds to our state makes no sense. We will drive the federal budget further into the red with the hope that Wisconsin’s budget might run a little less in the red. Many elected officials will have you believe that it’s “free money,” but nothing could be further from the truth. Our grandchildren will be paying for that bill.”
Not only is Rep. Vos correct he shows just how out of sync the Democrats are on this issue.
“In late November, state Sen. Bob Jauch, D-Poplar, proposed a 5 percent sales tax increase because “everybody has to share the pain,” according to one Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article. In the same article, Sen. John Lehman, D-Racine, said he would be in favor of removing sales tax exemptions, claiming about the increase: “I can explain that to my constituents.” Just this week,
Gov. Doyle proposed to reinstate the annual automatic gas tax increase.”
Did you get that?!?! All of you that voted for “Change” are going to get just that…change in your pocket nothing more. The State (and Federal) Governments are going to tax us nearly to death (and then they will tax you again – remember Obama wants the “death tax” reinstated completely!) There will be no place to hide. They see these deficits and in stead of thinking about cutting the budget all they look at is how to increase their revenue to keep the spending there.
I don’t know about you but when my family is facing huge debts we cut our spending to afford just the necessities in life. Why is it that the Government thinks that they are more important than us? Why do they hurt those that fund them and then attempt to fix it by giving back only a portion of what they took?
Kudos to Rep. Vos for doing a terrific job as our elected representative for the 63rd Assembly District and for this:
“Wisconsin must not take the easy route by raising taxes to pay for the overspending of past budgets, we must now summon the political courage to do what’s right and bring our government back to a size we can afford.”
What more can be said.
Would you prefer to set up your business in Wisconsin, Illinois, South Dakota or across the border in Canada (I’d say Mexico but lets just keep things here in the North!)?
Well?
The Tax Foundation took a look at the top corporate tax rates here in the US and abroad and found that Wisconsin’s top corporate tax rate is 40.1% (when combined with the top Federal Rate: 35% + 7.9%), Illinois’s rate is 39.7% (35% + 7.3%), South Dakota has no State corporate tax so the rate there is the Federal rate of 35%, and Canada (assuming you place your company in the province with the highest local rate) is 33.5% (Federal rate of 19.5% + 14%)!! (detail)
So while both Dems and Reps bitch and moan about jobs going over seas isn’t it amazing that they are doing nothing to lower the top Federal tax rate on corporations!!!
For more information on this check out the Tax Foundations CompeteUSA Project, there you will find useful information on the tax rates around the world and how they are impacting the consumer. For instance, did you know that in 2005 the average household paid nearly $2,757 more for goods due to corporate taxes? Want to see how well you understand the Corporate Taxes? Take their quiz here.
AP: Burris denied seat in US Senate to succeed Obama
I do not have any ill will toward Mr. Burris but the facts are he was appointed by a corrupt Governor and the appointment was not co-signed by the IL Secretary of State. Therefore he has no standing as a Senator from the State of IL.
Think MN could do that for that other schmuck?

Before I forget…I hope you all have a wonderful new year!
Keep reading and I’ll keep posting.
I hope everyone is having a great day!
But don’t forget we have a lot of work to do here in Wisconsin…
From the Tax Foundation Tax Policy Blog: State Budgets: Wisconsin Governor Boosts Spending, Hopes for Federal Bailout
CourierMail.com.au: Scientists warn Christmas lights harm the planet
“SCIENTISTS have warned that Christmas lights are bad for the planet due to huge electricity waste and urged people to get energy efficient festive bulbs.
CSIRO researchers said householders should know that each bulb turned on in the name of Christmas will increase emissions of greenhouse gases.”

A big thank you to all of you that contributed to the Arthritis Foundation, because of you I was able to raise $475!!! Now I know that it was short of my goal but in tough times you just have to face facts!
The Las Vegas Marathon was a perfect race for me the weather was great for running (50 degrees and overcast) and due to the training I was able to put together a new personal record…even after completing 4 other marathons this year!! My time was 4:45:05.

Woodward announces for Caledonia Village Trustee, vows to run aggressive campaign to earn seat
I know that the Obama camp (set up behind the fictitious “office of the President Elect”) is saying that Obama is clean but a shooting star in the Democrat party, out of Chicago, with ties to the Governor, an unrepentant domestic terrorist, and a felon (can you say Rezko?) can not be as clean as he has stated.
Think about it…the guy that will soon be president has gone to a church and has been baptized, married, and had his children baptized by a pastor that says “God da** America!” but then claims that “that isn’t the pastor I knew.”
How long before the ties between the Chicago machine and Obama really come to light?

Have I lost my mind?
Yeah…Obama isn’t part of the Chicago machine…and I’m an Olympic Sprinter.
The auto bailout is still on the table…would someone just kill the damn thing!!!
Silent e does some math for us:
“In 2007, Toyota sold 9.37 milion cars world wide.
They MADE 17.7 BILLION dollars.
In 2007, GM sold 9.37 million cars world wide.
They LOST 38.7 BILLION dollars.
We’re talking bailout WHY?”
Excellent question…can you say UAW?

Name that Country:
I need to give credit once again to CU for hitting this one out of the park! I just want to know how CU figured it out?!?!
The country was Luxemburg!
On my 1-10 scale this week’s country is only a 3.

I thought Obama was the “Change” candidate:
Obama picks Daschle to spearhead healthcare
Clinton for Sec. of State
Holder as Attorney General
Richardson as Commerce Sec.
Orszag as Teasury Sec. (although I like this one!)
Same old names not a lot of “change” here.
Senate says NO!
UAW not willing to work a deal…no bailout.
I do have a big question though…shouldn’t the auto execs have done this years ago? You know what I mean…say NO to the UAW?!?
Look at that…a whole weeks worth of posts…hmm…maybe this is how I should do it regularly! LOL!!!!
Jean hit last weeks pretty quickly! It was Racine’s Memorial Hall.
This week is really easy…so much so that I am providing 2 images from Google Earth!!
Name this Place:

Well this year I will not be in town to run it since I will be in Las Vegas running my 5th marathon of the year!
Since the Arthritis Foundation is important to me I’ve decided to dedicate the last 5k of my marathon (a marathon is 26.2 miles or 42.2 kilometers!!) to the cause. I’d like to raise $750 and I am half way there with less than a week to go!!!
So I ask you to please click on the picture below and donate to the Arthritis Foundation!
THANKS!!!

That was not a typo in the title…it looks like Prince George County in Maryland has banned the sale of single cigars!
Now if you guessed it is because smoking is bad for you…well you’d be wrong!
It seems that there is a trend among the drug crowd to hollow out cigars and to smoke marijuana.
Now if the legislation seems odd you are correct since as this article in the Washington Post points out “The new law will also make it easier to charge someone possessing a cigar with a drug paraphernalia offense,” and that “Tobacco stores that specialize in cigar sales…are excluded from the legislation's restrictions.”
I’m confused…if I buy a cigar from a high end tobacco store, place it in my shirt pocket, and then get pulled over for speeding, will I get a fine (or worse arrested) for carrying ‘drug paraphernalia’?

I guess God did send her a message on Nov. 4th…it went something like this…”Hey look Sarah, they beat you up because as a VP nominee you knew as much as their Presidential candidate. But they still elected him as President…I’m telling you that you should run in 2012.”
I’m sure that my quote is paraphrased…you know, God and I aren’t on a first name basis…I’m quite sure that was blasphemous and I’ll be going to hell!!
…why the MSM is still questioning Governor Sarah Palin’s credentials to be a Presidential Candidate in 2012!?!
I mean…didn’t we just elect a guy that has never governed anything or anyone, someone that served less time in the US Senate than he spent running to be President, a guy that even on election night the MSM was saying that they “knew nothing of Obama.”
9 out of 10…

Well it has been one hell of a month!
I got back from Australia and launched right into the campaigns.
I do have to say Racine County has some awesome volunteers! They worked tirelessly to get the job done.
In the end we McCain did not win Racine County…I’m still troubled by this. On the positive side all Republicans that ran for seats in Racine County…Won in Racine County!!
I think that the next 2 years will provide a lot of fodder for us conservative bloggers…sit back and enjoy the show.
We will be returning to our regular line up this week. Welcome back!
